Debt as weapon: Manufacturing poverty from Judah to today

It seems like a long distance from today’s crisis of economic debt in many countries and the debts in ancient Judah in the 8th century, but the systematic means of using a debt as a weapon to control the poor might be a common denominator of the two ages.
