Description
Summary:This article explores Augustine’s account of his experience of the divine as set down in selected passages from the Confessions, and views his mysticism in relation to its context, dynamics, and influences. The article examines the Neo-Platonic elements that informed Augustine’s conceptualisation of mysticism, and attempts to make sense of where intense mystical experiences, like the Ostia vision, fit in with Augustine’s broader understanding of mysticism as a way of life.
