Due to the fact, that at least in Germany, everyday life has becomemore and more harmless the last decades, people are in the position to shapetheir professional careers and private lives according to their own wishes and desires.Nevertheless there still remains a need for support in periods of crises likedisease, the death of beloved ones, the impending death of oneself or even in personaltimes of change like unemployment or retirement. Until today mental healthis mainly regarded from the pathological point of view by most of the psychiatrists.The salutogenetic, resource-orientated approach is often neglected. In thisarticle the importance of this salutogenetic approach is stressed. It will be discussedwhether the belief in the self healing powers of the body and mind are sufficientto help people coping with the normal and extraordinary turbulences of lifeor whether they do need the benefit from spirituality or religiosity too. It has to beclarified too, what kind of spirituality or religiosity is needed. |
