Σύνοψη: | Many interpretations of our times from the field of sociology of religion fall short in their explanatory power because they mostly consider religious institutions passive victims of societal developments such as »secularisation«, »individualism« and »subjectivism«. Here, the so-called »de-institutionalisation« of religious matters is a sociological statement of very limited scope. What is more, those who proclaim the incompatibility of religion and institutionalism under the current circumstances are deceiving themselves. The new social face of religion is based on decidedly institutional origins and reproduction conditions. This is especially true for the currently much-discussed »spirituality« in European sociology of religion. It is institutions, which allow for a casual way of living religiosity and which tolerate adapting religiosity to the momentary needs of the individual that are expanding with impressive dynamism. Institutional platforms providing a temporarily and socially flexible access to religious ideas of different provenance and sophistication have become popular. |
