Description
Summary:This paper deals with three approaches to the theory of myth. Considered first is the approach of the Durkheim circle, which regarded myth as a social phenomenon, able to shape everyday life. Second, from the perspective of transcendental idealism (Ernst Cassirer), myths were held to be a basic, and in principle rational, feature of intersubjectivity. Finally, productive differences between these two approaches are worked out which provide new starting points for further reflections about »the riddle of society«.
