Summary: | Discusses the Magnificat from various perspectives: Besides theological approach (fromm both the Catholic and the Protestant point of view), musical interpretations are examined. Heinrich Schütz composed four settings of the Magnificat, three of which use the German translation. His setting emphasizes certain verbs, most notably those that speak of God's power. Bach set the Magnificat twice (BWV 243 and 243a); he centered his settings on the Et misericordia section. (AN: 2007-24632) |
