Description
Summary:A discussion of the nature and the present status of Islamic fundamentalism is followed by an analysis of its role in the Middle Eastern regional dynamics of conflict. Populist fundamentalism and the Islamization of politics in Middle Eastern countries can be both causes of conflicts and means for resolving them. The real force of Islamic fundamentalism is in the fact that it provides the basis for most significant discourse within the contemporary Islamic world. As such, it can be a highly disruptive force for those who ignore it, but it may also be an ally of those who are willing to recognize it. (DÜI-Hns)
