Description
Summary:This book is a compilation of stories witnessing the lives of the Sisters of Saint Agnes who were imbued with the missionary spirit of their founder Mother Agnes Hazotte. Mother Agnes was known for her courageous initiatives and pioneering spirit. The reader will find that the memories of mission work by Sisters of Saint Agnes, who have shared life, love and service in Nicaragua, Ecuador, Honduras and Russia, allow a glimpse into the creation of community across extraordinary boundaries of geography and culture. A beginning missionary experience involved several sisters setting up a medical clinic along the Rio Coco on the Atlantic Coast in Waspam, Nicaragua, for the indigenous Miskito Indians -- with a couple of bottles of aspirin, some quinine and a few other supplies -- while also starting a Catholic elementary school. A more recent response found sisters travelling across 16 time zones at the request of a Catholic bishop to serve as educators and pastoral workers for the German/Russian Catholic remnant in Chelyabinsk, Siberia, Russia, after the breakup of the Soviet Union. The bishop was of German/Russian descent and he appealed to CSA members from Ellis County, Kansas, who shared a similar heritage
