He fills an important gap, both for the student and the scholar, for while there are studies aplenty on baptismal theology, and collections of liturgical texts like Max Johnson's updating of E. C. Whitaker's Documents of the Baptismal Liturgy (2003), no one has so far attempted to look at all these rites and their underlying theology from a historical and comparative point of view. |
