Description
Summary:Did the priestly authority concerning law maintain after the fall of the Jerusalem Temple in 70 ce? Did it disappear? Did it transfer to the Sages as often mentioned? The study of the priestly function in the diagnosis of skin disease across the Rabbinic literature of Tannaim gives some clues. The jurisprudential priestly authority is not directly transferred toward a not priestly authority, toward the Sages, but toward the figure of expert based on the medical technè. The expert belongs or not to a priestly family. The expert is different to the priest according to another level: his socio-religious belonging. The priest remains in the hierarchy of traditional social categories, while the expert belongs to a new socio-religious category which the first Rabbinic literature draws the profile contrasting with the priestly function.
