Description
Summary:Seventh-day Adventists claim a visionary understanding of Christ's role in judging the dead. As a result, we have been so intensely occupieed with details about the judgment that we almost neglect Christ's mediation for the living. This one-sided emphasis has produced some problems. It has interfered with our understanding of Christ's ongoing efforts for our redemption, and how His inistry affects our relationship with Him.Even worse, it has allowed the growth of ideaas that, instead of stressing Jesus as the only source of saving righteousness for fallen man, actually make the believer's own behavior modification the measure of his standing with God.Dr. Helmut Ott, clears up the fog that obscures what Jesus is doing in the sanctuary. He portrays Jesus as the powerful mediator, silencing our accusers, removing our filthy garments, and covering us with the glorious robe of His righteousness. This is how he presents us to the Father--righteous by faith.Ott had three objectives in writing this book. First, to focus "attention on what Christ is doing today to secure the salvation of those who accept Him as personal Saviour." Second, to awaken the reader's "awareness of his personal need to depend on Christ's atoning death, redemptive victory, and all-sufficient righteousness, imputed to him by faith, for a right standing with God." And third, to bring a systematic structure to the many teachings we find on this subject in Ellen White's writings. In all three objectives he succeeds admiraly. - Introduction. 1. Christ Mediates for the Believer to Present Him--as an Individual Person--Perfectly Righteous to the Father. 2. The Mediation of Christ the Only Way to Saving Righteousness to the Very End. 5. The Mediatorial Ministry of Christ Completed at the End of Probation. 6. Ellen G. White and a Deception Aimed Particularly at Adventists. 7. Two Groups of People in the Church: Those Righteous in Christ by Faith and Those Unrighteous. 8. Summary and Conclusions. 9. Appendix
Item Description:Helmut Ott carefully examines the writings of Ellen White and reveals her teachings about what Jesus is doing in the sanctuary to make up for our deficiency and secure our salvation. Does God demand that we become perfect before He comes? That thought can leave a tight feeling in the stomach when we sense the difference between our personal behavior and the flawless life of Jesus. Perfect in Christ relives this anxiety. It shifts attention from our behavior to Christ's work for us in Heaven. Helmut Ott carefully examines the writings of Ellen White and reveals her teachings about what Jesus is doing in the sanctuary to make up for our deficiency and secure our salvation. He says: "Because we are fallen, nothing we render to God is acceptable on its own merits. The Father recognizes only what we bring to Him through the merits of His Son. Our divine High Priest gives His personal righteousness to us in order to make up for our mistakes and render our service, our obedience, and our worship entirely pleasing to the Father." Ott goes on to say that "the Father's inheritance is not restricted to those who achieve sinless perfection. God holds each child responsible only for what He knows is reasonable to expect of him at every advancing step of his experience. Christ's merits make up for him at every advancing step of his experience. Christ's merits make up for his shortcomings. Therefore, the spiritual babe in Christ and the seasoned Christian alike can have full assurance of their continuous acceptance with the Father because of Jesus Christ."
