Grundlegende Aufsätze sind ebenso enthalten wie Texte zu sehr speziellen Aspekten, wie für einen Sammelband selbstverständlich können nicht alle denkbaren Fragestellungen behandelt werden. Ausgenommen sind die Ereignisse der "arabischen Revolution", die vom Autorenteam in dem Komplementärband "Der arabische Frühling" (in dieser Nr.) behandelt werden. Sehr interessante Einblicke und Ansätze, sachlich-fundiert und kenntnisreich. Für Wissenschaftler und Profis, aber auch für eingehender am Thema interessierte Laien. Andere Publikationen zur Thematik umfassen meist die gesamte Neuzeit - B. Lewis: "Die Araber" (zuletzt BA 4/03); A. Hourani: "Die Geschichte der arabischen Völker" (zuletzt BA 1/01); E.
