Summary: | Contemporary Jesus. Modern Imageries of Jesus and the Christology of the New Testament In the first part of the paper, important positions in the history of the Jesus research, from the beginnings of the Life of Jesus Research until the Third Quest, which had become relevant in a hermeneutical perspective, are traced. In the second part, such imageries of Jesus, which stress specific and typical accents for the present research on Jesus, are discussed briefly. The necessity of the quest for Jesus becomes obvious. At the same time, the impossibility of an objective image of Jesus becomes discernable. The Jesus research has a need for hermeneutical reflections. The third part of the paper outlines in a more fundamental way that, within Christian Theology, Jesus research can only be undertaken presupposing faith. This is exactly the way in which the synoptic Gospels interpret the story of Jesus differently. The quest for Jesus is, hereby, always connected with Christology in a specific way. Given this as a prerequisite, the quest for Jesus becomes a necessary act of interpretation for contemporary Christian Theology. |
