Zusammenfassung: | This article traces the stereotyping of Persia in the popular imagination of the 'West' from ancient Europe until the America of the twentieth century. The author shows how Persia has changed from being seen in ancient times as a respected enemy, to an envied enemy, a respected friend, a despised friend, and currently a despised enemy. He recognizes that the present day embodies the lowest opinion that both sides have held of each other. He hopes that the mutual characterization of fanaticism may change once again, but for the better, into a common belief in globalization and the future. |
