RT Article T1 Persia in the mind of the West JF Islam and Christian-Muslim relations VO 14 IS 4 SP 403 OP 406 A1 Frye, Richard Nelson 1920-2014 LA English PB Routledge YR 2003 UL https://ixtheo.de/Record/597088659 AB This article traces the stereotyping of Persia in the popular imagination of the 'West' from ancient Europe until the America of the twentieth century. The author shows how Persia has changed from being seen in ancient times as a respected enemy, to an envied enemy, a respected friend, a despised friend, and currently a despised enemy. He recognizes that the present day embodies the lowest opinion that both sides have held of each other. He hopes that the mutual characterization of fanaticism may change once again, but for the better, into a common belief in globalization and the future.
