The ultimate goal of the human person according to Thomas is achieved in the intellectual vision of God, a State in which the person cornes into union with God, yet remains ontologically dependent on God. This participation of the created person in the eternity of God Thomas calls aevum. In this State the person is no longer subject to the changes and movements of natural life. But the person does retain the capacity for a succession of thoughts that are other than the thoughts of the visio and proceed in a time that is other than the time that measures the movement of natural bodies. With this concept of aevum, participation in the visio does not exclude the continuing individuality of the person. | ||
