Zielsetzung des Sammelbandes ist es, nach einem halben Jahrzehnt der Planung und Umsetzung der Hartz-Reformen sowohl Bilanz zu ziehen als auch alternative Perspektiven in die Diskussion zu bringen. Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge beleuchten zum einen die politisch-normativen Grundlagen und Implikationen der Hartz-Reformen, zum anderen die konkreten Folgen des damit verbundenen Abbaus sozialer Rechte. Der Fokus dieser Bilanz reicht dabei über die materiellen und arbeitsmarktpolitischen Implikationen hinaus und umfasst Bereiche gesellschaftlichen Lebens, die unter der Zielperspektive der Aktivierung eine immer stärkere Indienstnahme seitens der Arbeitsmarktpolitik erfahren. In einem zweiten Teil des Sammelbands werden alternative sozialstaatliche, wirtschaftliche und arbeitsmarktpolitische Konzepte sowie konkrete Ansätze ihrer Umsetzung vorgestellt.
