Sie ist, wie der Soziologe und Bibelwissenschafter Pablo Richard aufzeigt, ein befreiendes Buch voller Hoffnung; ihre Utopie ist geschichtlich und politisch. Die Apokalypse steht für eine wichtige Bewegung am Ursprung des Christentums, die tief in der Geschichte Israels und in den prophetisch-apokalyptischen Strömungen wurzelt. Aus diesen gehen die Jesus-Bewegung, die Apostelmission und die ersten christlichen Gemeinden hervor. Die Johannesoffenbarung vereint die jüdischen und judenchristlichen apokalyptischen Traditionen, formt sie um und nimmt in der Kirche eine kritische Funktion des Widerstands gegen die Hellenisierung des Christentums und seine autoritär-patriarchale Institutionalisierung wahr. Daß die Apokalypse in Vergessenheit geriet, hat auf lange Sicht die Integration der Kirche ins herrschende imperiale System und das Entstehen einer autoritären Christenheit möglich gemacht. Die Johannesoffenbarung wiederzuentdecken heißt eine Grunddimension der Jesus-Bewegung und der Ursprünge des Christentums wiederzuentdecken. | ||
