AB Based on the examination of the correspondence between the director of the Egyptian and Near Eastern Departments of Berlin Museums, J. P. A. Erman, with his former academic teacher, G. M. Ebers at Leipzig and the director general of Berlin Museums, R. Schöne, this paper is to discuss the background of the purchase of the diplomatic correspondence found at Tell Amarna in 1888 from the hands of the Austrian carpet-dealer T. Graf, who incidentally also was an old school friend of Ebers.
