AB This article examines the meaning and function of the prohibition on τὸ πνικτόν in the apostolic decree. Four explanations and backgrounds for this prohibition on "the choked" are critically discussed. The subsequent semantic investigation of πνίγω κ.τ.λ. shows that Luke semantically renews this word. Against the background of Acts 15, this prohibition appears to be theologically and socio-culturally charged and to function as a means of mutual fellowship.
