Im deutschsprachigen Raum gibt es hierzu eine erhebliche Forschungslücke. Die vorliegende Studie exploriert erstmals, wie deutsche Pflegefachpersonen in Akutkrankenhäusern advokatorisches Handeln verstehen, welche Motive, Situationen, Strategien und Konsequenzen damit verbunden sind. Zugleich zeigt sich, dass sich advokatorisches Pflegehandeln mit Anforderungssituationen aus den Konzepten von Lebensqualität, Spiritualität und Coping in Verbindung bringen lassen. Methode: Es wurden 15 leitfadengestützte Experteninterviews mit Pflegefachpersonen sowie 3 ergänzende Interviews mit einer Ergotherapeutin, einer Medizinstudentin und einem Assistenzarzt geführt. Die Auswertung erfolgte mittels der qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse nach Kuckartz/Rädiker ( 5 2022). Ergebnisse: Zentrale Motive advokatorischen Handelns sind die Realisierung persönlicher und berufsethischer Werte. Es konnten hilfreiche und hinderliche Faktoren identifiziert werden. Die interprofessionelle Zusammenarbeit mit dem ärztlichen Dienst ist dabei von zentraler, oft konfliktbehafteter Bedeutung. Fazit: Advokatorisches Handeln ist ein bedeutsames Element professioneller Pflege in Deutschland. Die Förderung einer advokatorischen Haltung sowie unterstützender struktureller und kultureller Rahmenbedingungen ist essenziell, um die Patientenversorgung und die Arbeitszufriedenheit des Pflegepersonals nachhaltig zu verbessern. Advokatorisches Handeln fördert die Lebensqualität, Spiritualität und Coping-Bestrebungen der anvertrauten Menschen, auch wenn die deutsche Übersetzung der Neudefinition des ICN Spiritual Care nicht als Teilaufgabe professioneller Pflege ausweist. | ||
| 520 | |a Advocacy is part of the professional identity in US nursing education and practice. In the new definition of professional nursing and nursing professionals by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), advocacy is also one of the tasks of nursing that goes beyond direct patient care. However, there is a considerable research gap in this area in German-speaking countries. The present study was written as a dissertation at the University of Witten/Herdecke (Prof. Dr. Arndt Büssung) and explored for the first time how German nursing professionals in acute care hospitals understand advocacy, and what motives, situations, strategies, and consequences are associated with it. Furthermore, it is evident that advocacy in nursing can be linked to demanding situations arising from the concepts of quality of life, spirituality, and coping. Method: Fifteen expert interviews were conducted with nursing professionals, as well as three supplementary interviews with an occupational therapist, a medical student and a resident physician. The evaluation was carried out using qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz/Rädiker (52022)., Results: Advocacy in nursing is understood as "standing up for the interests of those affected", especially when they are unable to articulate their own needs. Key motives include the realization of personal and professional ethical values such as autonomy, dignity, and/or quality of life in specific situations such as patient protection, improvement of care or concern for relatives. The decision to act requires courage and the assumption of responsibility. Professional experience, team support, a positive error culture, and supportive superiors have been identified as helpful conditions. Profit-oriented hospital management, time pressure, hierarchical structures, and fear of conflict are hindering factors. Interprofessional cooperation with the medical service is of central, often conflict-laden importance., Conclusion: Advocacy is an integral, albeit demanding, part of professional nursing in Germany. The results suggest that promoting an advocacy mindset and supportive structural and cultural conditions in the healthcare system is essential for sustainably improving patient care and job satisfaction among nursing staff. Advocacy promotes the quality of life, spirituality, and coping efforts of those entrusted to care, even if the German translation of the redefinition of ICN does not explicitly identify spiritual care as part of professional nursing. | ||
