AB Call no one your Father on earth, for you have only one Father in heaven (Mt 23,9). Given this categorical affirmation, how does St. Augustine that the Bridegroom, that is, JesusChrist have Children (Mt 9,15: The Children of the Bridegroom), of whom he should consequently be called father? The first part of the study tries to anserw this question, which excludes speaking of a filiation by adoption and proposes a "natural"-spiritual. filiation. The second part does the same with two questions raised by the saint's use of the concept of adoption: how can it be explained that in several texts he affirms that JesusChrist adopted his servants as sons -which would make him and (adoptive) father,- and in others that he adopted them as brothers -if all adoptions is only os sons-? The anserw excludes any filial adoption by Christ and highlights the importance given to the mediation of Jesus Christ in the adoption by God the Father.
AB No llaméis a nadie Padre vuestro en la tierra, porque solo uno es vuestro Padre: en el cielo (Mt 23,9). Habida cuenta de esta afirmación categórica, ¿Cómo entiende san Agustín que el Esposo, es decir, Jesucristo, tenga hijos (cf. Mt 9,15: los hijos del esposo), de los que en consecuencia habría que llamarle padre? A esta cuestión trata de responder la primera parte del estudio, que excluye hablar de una filiación por adopción y propone una filiación "natural"-espiritual. La segunda parte hace lo mismo con dos cuestiones que plantea el uso por el santo del concepto de adopción ¿Cómo se explica que en varios textos afirme que Jesucristo adoptó como hijos a siervos suyos -lo que le constituiría en padre (adoptivo)-, y en otros que los adoptó como hermanos -si toda adopción es solo de hijos-? La respuesta excluye toda adopción filial por parte de risto y pone de relieve la importancia otorgada a la mediación de Jesucristo en la adopción por Dios Padre.
