It contains almost a promise of admission to the two year divinity course and residence. 'There should be no problem', the Provost wrote. In September 1941 Eugene moved into what was to be his place of residence (with few interruptions) down to the present time. He had been born in Ottawa (but with Nova Scotia roots) and educated in Montreal — high school followed by a B.A. from McGill. In his first two years at Trinity he completed the two year Divinity course and also an M.A. degree from the University of Toronto in Philosophy. He was part of a small but distinguished Divinity Class of four — unlike this year's divinity enrolment of a hundred and thirty five. Indeed, the University of Trinity College was very small- three hundred in Arts and, until after the war usually less than a dozen altogether in Divinity. There was little interaction with the other colleges — certainly not Wycliffe! Liturgy happened in the Chapel — now Seeley Hall — in well-done middle of the way Anglicanism. Ordination to the diaconate and priesthood followed in 1943—44. | ||
