Through an analysis of the introductory scene and the exchanges between Socrates, Critias, and Charmides, the philosophical relevance of the young interlocutor’s disposition for dialogue is highlighted. In particular, the first definition of sophrosýneas “a certain calmness” and the refutation carried out by Socrates are examined. It is argued that the refutation, far from being a merely negative exercise, has philosophical value and serves a propaedeutic function. The study invites a reconsideration of the status of aporetic dialogues, emphasizing their productivity in philosophical terms. Finally, a rational reconstruction of Socrates’ argument is proposed, and some implications for the broader understanding of Platonic thought are suggested | ||

A través del análisis de la escena introductoria y de los intercambios entre Sócrates, Critias y Cármides, se destaca la relevancia filosófica de la disposición para el diálogo en el joven interlocutor. En particular, se examina la primera definición de sophrosýnecomo “cierta calma” y la refutación que Sócrates lleva a cabo. Se argumenta que, lejos de ser un ejercicio meramente negativo, la refutación tiene un valor filosófico positivo y cumple una función propedéutica. El estudio permite reconsiderar el estatuto de los diálogos aporéticos, resaltando su productividad en términos filosóficos. Finalmente, se propone una reconstrucción racional del argumento socrático y se sugieren algunas consecuencias para la comprensión general del pensamiento platónico | ||
