The article aims to trace the biographical profile of Garrigou-Lagrange not only through the salient historical data, difficult to find in other biographies, but also thanks to the comparison with some philosophical currents with which the theologian was confronted. After the presentation of the family origins and the native cultural climate of the thinker, the stages of his training prior to entering religion were retraced. Of particular consideration is the event that marks a turning point in Garrigou-Lagrange’s life, the “second conversion” that will lead him to enter the Dominican Order. In retracing the excursus of his philosophical-theological training, the comparison with modern philosophies – Materialism, Agnosticism, Philosophies of life and of becoming – is profoundly linked to the personal life and the modus cogitandi of our Thomist. Without neglecting his role as spiritual director and his pastoral activity, as well as his irrefutable theological contribution in the dogmatic field, the study finds its epilogue with the memory of the last years that will lead to the death of Garrigou-Lagrange. | ||

L’articolo si propone di tracciare il profilo biografico di Garrigou-Lagrange non solo attraverso i dati storici salienti, difficilmente reperibili in altre biografie, ma anche grazie all’accostamento con alcune correnti filosofiche con le quali il teologo ebbe a confrontarsi. Dopo la presentazione delle origini familiari e il clima culturale nativo del pensatore, sono state ripercorse le tappe della sua formazione precedente l’ingresso in religione. Di notevole considerazione è l’evento che segna una svolta nella vita di Garrigou-Lagrange, la “seconda conversione” che lo porterà ad entrare nell’Ordine Domenicano. Nel ripercorrere l’excursus della sua formazione filosofico-teologica, risulta impreteribile il paragone con le filosofie moderne – Materialismo, Agnosticismo, Filosofie della vita e del divenire – profondamente legate alla vicenda personale e al modus cogitandi del nostro tomista. Senza trascurare il suo ruolo di direttore spirituale e la sua attività pastorale, nonché l’incomputabile contributo teologico nell’ambito dogmatico, lo studio trova il suo epilogo con il ricordo degli ultimi anni che condurranno alla morte di Garrigou-Lagrange. | ||
