In this article I argue that the place of the individual believer in the structures and life of the church has undergone a change over the centuries, moving away from its biblical character, leading to a crippled ecclesiology, because of a distinction that arose between clergy and laity, in which the laity were merely seen as objects and not as subjects. I argue that a return to a biblical ecclesiology is needed in which the individual believer is fully recognized as being part of the people of God, participating through the Spirit in newness of life in the mission of Christ. | ||
