| Summary: | In the 19th century, the faculties of theology and canon law in public universities in Spain played a crucial role in academic training and in the social and cultural organization of the country, being centers of intellectual, ethical and moral debate in a largely Catholic society. These faculties experienced significant changes due to the processes of secularization and modernization that characterized the time, influencing their structure and educational and social approach in Spanish society. Secularization in Spain was a multidisciplinary issue that led to tensions between Church and State, which were due to changing relationships, with the Enlightenment and Liberalism being fundamental causes of a process of change and modernization. The presence of Theology in the public university generated debates about its relationship with other sciences. The different study plans and the analysis of the Concordat in 1851, which suppressed the faculties of Theology and Canons and its definitive disappearance in 1868, affected teaching and the connection between the Church and society, without a solution to moderate alternatives, leaving a impact and isolation of the Church in the University. En el siglo XIX, las facultades de teología y Derecho canónico en las universidades públicas de España desempeñaron un papel crucial en la formación académica y en la organización social y cultural del país, siendo centros de debate intelectual, ético y moral en una sociedad mayoritariamente católica. Estas facultades experimentaron cambios significativos debido a los procesos de secularización y modernización que caracterizaron la época, influyendo en su estructura y enfoque educativo y social en la sociedad española. La secularización en España fue un asunto multidisciplinario que conllevó tensiones entre la Iglesia y el Estado, que fueron debidas por cambiantes relaciones, siendo la Ilustración y el Liberalismo causantes fundamentales de un proceso de cambio y modernización. La presencia de la Teología en la universidad pública generó debates sobre su relación con otras ciencias. Los diferentes planes de estudios y el análisis del Concordato en 1851 que suprimía las facultades de Teología y de Cánones y su desaparición definitiva en 1868, afectaron a la enseñanza y a la conexión entre la Iglesia y la sociedad, sin solución a alternativas moderadas, dejando un impacto e aislamiento de la Iglesia en la Universidad. |
