| Summary: | This article is motivated by the commemoration of the X Anniversary of the Coronation of the Virgin of the Assumption, Patron Saint of Jumilla. The main objective would be to record the historical evolution of the Brotherhood (Cofradía) of the same name during the 16th to 21st centuries. The methodology is based on various bibliographic sources that contain abundant documentary and archival information, in the published Histories of Jumilla, the Bulletins published by both the Brotherhood and the Association of Moors and Christians, the Holy Week Books, the observation and personal testimonials. We propose an approach to the historical knowledge of the Brotherhood, clarifying its secular construction process, its influence on the popular devotion of jumillanos and its spiritual values, contextualized within the general framework of contemporary brotherhood associationism. It would be convenient to have updated documentary archives, which help us to better understand how the patron saint festivities influence the collective identity of this population. Este artículo viene motivado por la conmemoración del X Aniversario de la Coronación de la Virgen de la Asunción, Patrona de Jumilla. El objetivo principal sería dejar constancia del devenir histórico de la Cofradía homónima durante los siglos XVI al XXI. La metodología está basada en diversas fuentes bibliográficas que contienen abundante información documental y archivística, en las Historias de Jumilla publicadas, los Boletines editados tanto por la Cofradía, como por la Asociación de Moros y Cristianos, los Libros de Semana Santa, la observación y los testimonios personales. Proponemos una aproximación al conocimiento histórico de la Cofradía, esclareciendo su proceso constructivo secular, su influencia en la devoción popular de los jumillanos y sus valores espirituales, contextualizados dentro del marco general del asociacionismo cofrade contemporáneo. Convendría disponer de archivos documentales actualizados, que ayuden a los investigadores a comprender mejor cómo influyen las fiestas patronales en la identidad colectiva de esta población. |
