FBOs treten international für Menschenrechte, Armutsminderung, Klimagerechtigkeit und ähnliche Anliegen ein. Während diese Art von Advocacy auf Distanz durch religiöse Akteure bereits seit dem europäischen Imperialismus besteht, ist ihr Einfluss in den letzten Jahrzehnten stark gestiegen, trotz zunehmender Einschränkungen für die Zivilgesellschaft in vielen Ländern. Der Begriff shrinking spaces beschreibt die Herausforderungen, mit denen NGOs, einschließlich FBOs, konfrontiert sind, insbesondere in autoritären Staaten, aber auch in ehemals stabilen Demokratien. FBOs gehen pragmatisch dabei vor, sich in Advocacy-Netzwerken zu organisieren, die aus religiösen und nicht explizit religiösen Organisationen bestehen, um ihre Ziele effektiver zu erreichen. Hinsichtlich ihrer Strategien und Themen müssen auch FBOs wie alle NGOs im entwicklungspolitischen Feld ihr wirtschaftliches Überleben im Blick behalten und sich dem Wettbewerb um Fördermittel, Spenden und Aufmerksamkeit stellen. Dennoch bildet ein enger und langfristiger Dialog mit den vertretenen Gruppen in der Regel die Grundlage der Advocacy-Inhalte von FBOs. | ||
| 520 | |a Faith-based organizations (FBOs) play a significant role as advocacy actors in development policy. FBOs advocate internationally for human rights, poverty reduction, climate justice and similar causes. While this type of advocacy has existed since the days of European imperialism, its influence has grown significantly in recent decades, despite increasing restrictions on civil society in many countries. The term »shrinking spaces« describes the challenges faced by NGOs, including FBOs, especially in authoritarian states and even in formerly stable democracies. FBOs take a pragmatic approach to organizing themselves into advocacy networks consisting of religious and non-explicitly religious organizations to achieve their goals more effectively. In terms of their strategies and issues, FBOs, like all NGOs in the field of development policy, must also keep an eye on their economic survival and face competition for funding, donations and public attention. Nevertheless, close and long-term dialogue with the groups they represent often forms the basis of FBOs’ advocacy content. | ||
