The woman is a recent convert from Protestantism. The couple is seeking permission to marry in a Protestant church since the woman’s father is the pastor there, and she has always dreamed of having her father perform her marriage. I realize that this dispensation is normally reserved to the Holy See. The problem is that the wedding is only two days away, and therefore there is not adequate time to have recourse to Rome. In light of canon 87, §2, which states that the local bishop can dispense from universal and particular law, even from those dispensations reserved to the Holy See (except celibacy), when it is a dispensation customarily granted by the Holy See, can the bishop dispense from canonical form in this case? How does canon 1080 apply in this situation? | ||
