Description
Summary:This article explores the implications of gene editing technologies, particularly focusing on medical applications and future possibilities. It also discusses approaches to gene editing, beginning with plant manipulation up until modern day, when CRISPR is being used. One limitation of gene editing considered is that gene editing technology is capable of being used to manipulate the human germ line such that the gene pool can be permanently altered. While approaches for studying effects of genetic manipulation on a single individual are possible, genetic effects that span multiple generations would be outside the realm of the standard scientific work of today and would require new approaches and new considerations.
