| Summary: | The miracles in Joltn 6: 1—21, explained in terms of an analysis of the narrator's perspective The author of the Gospel of John reconstructed creatively, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, certain events in the life of Jesus Christ. His description of these events does not amount to an accumulation of facts or to a literal description. Instead, the events are vividly described to the reader. What is told, seems to be enough to bring people to faith in Christ as the Messiah and to lead them to life (Jn 20: 30-31). This effect is obtained by the author's Interpretation, as can be seen by his use of a narrator who introduces the reader to the story using a peculiar device, namely the two-step progression. Hereby the reader is confronted v/ith two miracles on the same subject: Only with Christ there is life! This is illustrated from two perspectives: » the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand, as told from the perspective of Him who performed it, and » the miracle of the walking on the waters, as told from the perspective of those who saw it, the disciples. |
