Description
Résumé:Catechesis, catechisms, and the confession of faith in Geneva during the life of Calvin In this article the catechetical instruction of the children of the faithful, that Calvin introduced in Geneva, is described. In the first place attention is given to the catechetical instruction as Calvin and Farel practised it during the years 1536-1538. On his return to Geneva in 1541 Calvin reorganised the catechetical instruction and expanded it. Attention is given to the catechetical material that was used and the role played by the parents, school and ministers in the religious education of the children. Finally the quality of Calvin’s work is briefly discussed.
