| Summary: | Exu Mirim is an entity (spirit) that acts in Umbanda (a religion of Brazilian origin), and is considered a mystery to its practitioners. For historical and cultural reasons, this entity is highly discriminated against, mainly due to lack of knowledge. Thus, this study aimed to describe the entity Exu Mirim and its respective function in Umbanda temples, through the accounts of the Exu Mirins and Meninas Mirins entities themselves. The nature of the study was qualitative, with data collected through interviews. The sample consisted of 3 Exu Mirins entities and one Menina Mirim entity during the process of incorporation into mediums in the Umbanda temple Barracão de Xangô, southern Portugal. The answers given by the Exu Mirins entities stated that Exu Mirim is an enchanted wight, never incarnated on Earth and whose function is to help, protect and open paths. This study aimed to demystify the prejudice generated in the figure of Exu Mirim by increasing literacy on this topic, contributing with more information to try to unravel this mystery. |
