Description
Summary:In his commentary on 1Tm 2,1-4, Ambrosiaster says that, in this text, St Paul the Apostle established a Regula ecclesiastica of community prayer that is faithfully followed by the sacerdotes nostri, the bishops with whom he was acquainted. They surely included St Ambrose of Milan, and possibly St Augustine of Hippo and the author of a prayer in the Munich palimpsest Gallican Sacramentary. It would appear that Rome was also faithful to it, despite having introduced the canon actionis into the eucharistic prayer.
