Drawing on both ancient thinking of mimesis in the work of Plato and Aristotle, but also on more recent work on the concept, including Nietzsche’s account of the role of "unconscious mimesis" in human evolution, René Girard’s insight into the anthropological significance of the imitation of desire, and the recent discovery of mirror neurons, Lawtoo suggests that we see
