Für die Geschichtswissenschaft stellt sich in diesem Kontext jedoch die Frage, ob (und wenn ja, wie?), eine Vermessung von Kalliopes Dichtkunst empirisch belastbar möglich ist. Der Aufsatz stellt drei methodische Vorschläge vor, um „Kalliope zu vermessen": die Analyse des wirtschaftlichen Erfolgs einer Geschichte, ihrer lokalen und temporalen Verbreitung sowie ihres handlungsleitenden Potenzials. Am Beispiel des vermeintlichen Ritualmords von Tiszaeszlar (1882/1883) werden diese Methoden beispielhaft erläutert. | ||

Calliope's art of narration can be measured in order to make the analysis empirically robust.This essay proposes three methods for "measuring Calliope": analysing the economic success of a given story, tracing its spread through time and space, and examining its potential to guide action.
