In this article the reader finds an editio maior along with a translation of the Argumentum. The reconstruction of the history of this text shows reconfiguration phenomena parallel to those observed in catenae: users expand, shorten, and sometimes reformulate a text they did not consider deeply rooted in tradition. This leads us to the conclusion that the criterion of this text’s vitality is not its authority, but its lack thereof: as a minor text that ended up, so to speak, in the public domain, the Argumentum in Prouerbia is a copyright-free text that readers believed they were free to use and modify. | ||
