Such a practice of fostering the democratic necessarily operates within tensions arising from numerous, sometimes controversial, conflicts. This contribution provides an overview of selected key areas of tension that become visible and tangible in the context of cultivating the democratic across different societal domains. The focus is on the ambivalences of democracy-related educational processes—in both institutionalized and informal settings. Central to the article are insights from political science and research on civic education regarding tasks and challenges for the further development of the “democratic.” Democracy is understood not as a static goal but as an open, conflict-laden, and continuously learning way of life that must be repeatedly tested and negotiated in diverse contexts. | ||
| 520 | |a Weil Demokratie in vielfacher Hinsicht unter Druck steht – etwa durch gesellschaftliche Fragmentierung, politische Polarisierung und institutionellen Vertrauensverlust – wächst der Anspruch an demokratische Gesellschaften, weit über eine reine Wissensvermittlung hinaus aktiv zu werden. Eine solche Praxis der Bildung des Demokratischen bewegt sich notwendigerweise in Spannungsfeldern zahlreicher – teils kontroverser – Konflikte. Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über einige ausgewählte zentrale Spannungsfelder, die im Kontext der Bildung des Demokratischen in unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Bereichen sichtbar und erfahrbar werden. Dabei richtet sich der Blick auf Ambivalenzen demokratiebezogener Bildungsprozesse – in institutionalisierten genauso wie in informellen Räumen. Im Zentrum des Beitrags stehen Impulse aus der Politikwissenschaft und dem Bereich der politischen Bildungsforschung zu Aufgaben und Herausforderungen, um das „Demokratische“ künftig weiterzuentwickeln. Dabei wird Demokratie nicht als statisches Ziel, sondern als offene, konflikthafte und lernbedürftige Lebensform begriffen, die in unterschiedlichen Kontexten immer wieder neu erprobt und ausgehandelt werden muss. | ||
