Description
Résumé:In the context of the reform of the church from the 11th century onwards, preaching was gradually considered the most effective instrument to promote the Christianisation of society. The success of itinerant preachers in the 12th century made them a model for the development of regular life. The Fourth Lateran Council (1215) recommended the establishment of groups of experienced preachers to support bishops in their ministry, and the papacy soon identified suitable personalities to inaugurate a new style of regular life that would hold together the two motifs now considered fundamental: preaching and pastoral ministry.
