| Resumo: | Although the similarity between Buddhism and the scientific world-view has been exaggerated in recent years, the coincidental and analogical similarity in terminology between the two has enabled practicing Buddhists to live in a science-dominated society with a minimum of cognitive dissonance. Within the context of an academic encounter between scientists and religionists, Buddhism can assist in the creation of a common language be mediating between science and theistic religion - its particular contribution lying in the fact that it has affinities to both of these modes of discourse, yet falls wholly within neither camp. It was with some reticence that I agreed to take part in these proceedings. |
