Despite this, the voices of Christian representatives, particularly at the institutional level, have rarely been consulted. This article explores the positions taken on migration, asylum and religious pluralism by the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), a Roman Catholic advocacy organisation working at the European institutional level. It charts the history of Catholic international organisations and the post-Vatican II reconfiguration of the Church around these subjects, before outlining the rhetorical stances and tangible ventures of COMECE's work, outlining its theological imperatives and religious authority, and nuancing the degree of support and opposition Catholic advocacy on these subjects has faced at the levels of the European institutional arena. | ||

Ces tensions expriment des préoccupations culturelles concernant l’incompatibilité supposée des migrants (en particulier musulmans) avec les valeurs communément associées au christianisme et au processus d'intégration européenne. Malgré cela, les représentants chrétiens, en particulier au sein des institutions, ont rarement été consultés. Cet article examine les positions adoptées sur les enjeux de la migration, de l’asile et du pluralisme religieux par la Commission des épiscopats de l'Union européenne (COMECE), une organisation catholique romaine qui oeuvre au niveau des institutions européennes. Il retrace l’histoire des organisations internationales catholiques et la reconfiguration de l'Église après le concile Vatican II autour de ces enjeux, avant de présenter les positions rhétoriques et les projets concrets menés par la COMECE, tout en mettant en lumière ses impératifs théologiques et son autorité religieuse. Enfin, il nuance le degré de soutien et d'opposition rencontré par le plaidoyer catholique sur ces questions au sein des institutions européennes. | ||

Dabei wurden kulturelle Ängste bezüglich der Inkompatibilität von (insbesondere muslimischen) Migranten mit den scheinbar im Christentum wurzelnden gemeinsamen Werten des europäischen Integrationsprozesses zum Ausdruck gebracht. Trotzdem wurden die Meinungen christlicher Vertreter, insbesondere auf institutionellem Niveau, nur selten herangezogen. Dieser Artikel untersucht die Standpunkte zu Migration, Asyl und religiösem Pluralismus der Kommission der Bischofskonferenz der Europäischen Gemeinschaft (COMECE), einer römisch-katholischen Vertretungsorganisation auf europäischer institutioneller Ebene. Er zeichnet die Geschichte der katholischen internationalen Organisationen und die Rekonfiguration der Kirche bezüglich dieser Themen nach dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil auf. Im Anschluss werden die rhetorischen Haltungen und fassbaren Schöpfungsprozesse der Arbeit der COMECE dargelegt, sowie ihre theologischen Imperative und religiöse Autorität. Dabei wird der Grad der Unterstützung und Opposition nuanciert ins Bild gebracht, den die katholischen Befürworter dieser Themen auf der institutionellen Ebene der europäischen Bühne ausgesetzt waren. | ||
