Artikkelen vektlegger at den konteksten regelen opptrer i, er avgjørende for hvordan den skal forstås. Det gjelder ikke minst formuleringene i Matt 7,12 og Luk 6,31. This article discusses the meaning of the Golden Rule. The discussion focuses on the role the rule has played in Norwegian theological and philosophical debates, the origin of the rule, the meaning of the rule, and the relationship between the rule and Kant’s categorical imperative. Did Plato ever formulate a Golden Rule? Is it to be understood as an expression of reciprocity, or as an expression of unconditional love, not expecting to receive any rewards or repayment? The article also emphasizes the role the context plays in understanding the meaning of the rule, especially the context the authors of the gospels of Matthew and Luke placed the rule in when they wrote the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain. |
