Telenovela e Islã: dos estereótipos à visibilidade

Telenovela escrita por Gloria Perez autora conhecida pelos temas “étnicos” e de cunho social, tais como, ciganos, muçulmanos, indianos, transplante de órgãos, alcoolismo, imigração ilegal, clonagem humana. O argumento que sustento é que a novela “salvou” a comunidade islâmica brasileira da “invisibilidade” e trouxe para dentro das casas brasileiras um pouco da cultura árabe-islâmica, que embora estereotipados, contribuíram significativamente para revelar à nossa sociedade quem são os muçulmanos e em que eles acreditam. Ao escrever o artigo me deparei com outro tipo de “invisibilidade”, os quase inexistentes trabalhos em antropologia visual que contemplam análise de imagens de telenovelas. Neste sentido, este texto busca contribuir com outros modos de ver a televisão, em particular, a telenovela. | ||
| 520 | |a The aim of this paper is to invite reflection on the Muslim soap opera “O Clone”, which aired form 1 October 2001 to 15 June 2002, on Rede Globo Television, the replay of which began in January 2011. Gloria Perez, the soap opera writer, is known for her ´ethnic´ themes of a social nature – Gypsies, Muslims, Indians, organ transplants, alcoholism, illegal immigration, human cloning, etc. The argument in favor of `O Clone´ is that the soap opera “saved” the Brazilian Islamic community from “invisibility” and brought some of the Arab-Islamic culture into Brazilian homes, which, though stereotyped, contributed significantly to reveal to our society who the Muslims are and what they believe in. When writing the article I encountered another type of “invisibility” – the few, almost non-existent, works in visual anthropology which include image analysis of soap opera. In this light, this text seeks to contribute with other forms of watching television, particularly soap opera. | ||
