Their religion is a religion of the word. The terms ñe’e, ayvu~ and ã, translated as “word”, also signify “voice, speech, tongue, language, soul, name, life, origin, personality” and, above all, possess a spiritual essence. God is Word, and is, by excellence, a being of speech. Life’s experiences are experiences of greater or lesser realization of this word. If we ask what the Guaranis understand by salvation it is also the word which orients reflection. Evil is seen as the “bifurcation of the word” and its overcoming as “redemption” of the spoken. In this article, I try to bring this indigenous way of thinking close to Christian soteriology and present some aspects of anthropology which sustains it. | ||

A religião deles é uma religião da palavra. Os termos ñe’e, ayvu~ e ã, traduzidos por “palavra”, significam também “voz, fala, linguagem, idioma, alma, nome, vida, origem, personalidade” e, sobretudo, possuem uma essência espiritual. Deus é palavra, e é, por excelência, um ser da fala. As experiências da vida são experiências de maior ou menor realização dessa palavra. Se perguntarmos pelo que os Guarani entendem por salvação, é também a palavra que orienta a reflexão. O mal é visto como “bifurcação da palavra” e sua superação, como “redenção” do dizer. Neste artigo procuro aproximar esse pensamento indígena da soteriologia cristã e apresentar alguns aspectos da antropologia que o sustenta. | ||
