總結:The article analyses the European reaction to the Vatican II in a socio-religious perspective. It describes the international context at the time, the first post-Council period and the turnabout that happened in the 80s and 90s, when the unforeseen consequences of the Council changes led to the so-called “counter-reform” headed by the Roman Curia. He concludes by suggesting that the Vatican II Council, “as a process of the ‘semper reformanda’Church, had a partial but genuine reception in Europe and this still inspires Catholic laypeople, nuns, priests and bishops who are hoping, perhaps, for another Council: a Council that will not come too soon so that it can really mean a new birth”.
