| Resumo: | My intention, when I prepared this text, was to point to the Catholic Church’s major characteristics just before the Vatican II Council and its relation with the society of the time. To carry out the analysis, I adopted a historical perspective of medium duration, covering the hundred years just before the convening of the Council. Rather than listing the multiple contingent aspects that influenced the convening of the Council, I preferred to register some structural elements that made up the framework of the Catholic institution in that period. Minha intenção, ao elaborar este texto, é assinalar as principais características da Igreja Católica às vésperas do Concílio Vaticano II e sua relação com a sociedade da época. Para realizar esta análise, adotei uma perspectiva histórica de média duração, abrangendo os últimos cem anos que antecederam a convocação do Concílio. Ao invés de fazer o elenco dos múltiplos aspectos contingentes que influenciaram a realização conciliar, preferi registrar alguns elementos estruturais que formaram o arcabouço da instituição católica nesse período. |
