AB The main aim of this article is to study the relationship between the research that Father José de Anchieta held on language, especially with the production and publication of A Arte da gramática da língua mais usada na costa do Brasil, and the evangelizing project developed by him in the sixteenth century Brazil. To achieve this goal the article was divided into two parts: 1) Father José de Anchieta: brief biographical summary; 2) The problem of language in Father José de Anchieta: between scientific research and the evangelizing mission. Finally, it is stated that the structure represented by the linguistic research and evangelization, developed by Anchieta, may be a possibility to overcome individualism and fragmentation of the contemporary world and at the same time, trying to create the whole man proposed by old humanism and by the early Christians.
AB O objetivo desse artigo é estudar a relação existente entre a pesquisa que o padre José de Anchieta realizou sobre a linguagem, especialmente com a produção e a publicação de A Arte da gramática da língua mais usada na costa do Brasil, e o projeto evangelizador desenvolvido por ele no Brasil do século XVI. Para alcançar esse objetivo, o artigo foi dividido em duas partes: 1) Padre José de Anchieta: pequena síntese biográfica; 2) O problema da linguagem no padre José de Anchieta: entre a pesquisa científica e a missão evangelizadora. Por fim, afirma-se que o conjunto representado pela pesquisa linguística e a evangelização, desenvolvido por Anchieta, pode ser uma possibilidade para se superar o individualismo e a fragmentação do mundo contemporâneo e, ao mesmo tempo, para se tentar criar o homem integral proposto pelo humanismo antigo e pelos primeiros cristãos.Palavras-Chave: Anchieta.
