This approach rests on the presupposition that in most cases the type of word order represents the unmarked word order. The frequence of the marked word order may, however, depend upon the nature of the utterances and is, consequently, unreliable. In this study it is pointed out that within the Minimalist Program verb movement as well as the strength of features are adequate to explain the unmarked (as well as the various forms of marked) word order(s) in Biblical Aramaic.
