St Procopius and his fellow ascetic, Basil the Confessor, to be identified with two correspondents of St Theodore Studite, suffered under the iconoclast persecution, under Leo V the Armenian (813-820). The borrowings of the anonymous hagiographer from other ixth c. Lives allow the probable date of composition of the Life of St Procopius to be situated after 850. |
